MOOSIC -- Dan Johnson's home run Tuesday at PNC Field against former big league ace Daisuke Matsuzaka was all the RailRiders needed to secure a victory.

The RailRiders defeated the Columbus Clippers 2-1 in the opening game of the series.

There wasn't much hitting done by either team, with both combining for 7 hits on the evening. The Clippers with 4 and the RailRiders with 3.

The Clippers struck first in the top of the fourth. Back to back doubles from Luis Hernandez and Cord Phelps put the Clippers up 1-0. Both players finished the evening 1-4.

For the RailRiders, their inning was the bottom of the sixth, where Corbin Joseph led off with a double. With two outs, Dan Johnson homered to right field to take a 2-1 lead. That would be enough to win.

Dellin Betances earned his first win on the season, striking out seven in seven innings of work. Daisuke Matzusaka remains winless on the year, suffering his second loss of the season, striking out eight in 6 1/3 innings of work. Preston Claiborne picked up his second save of 2013 for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

The RailRiders face the Clippers Wednesday night, with the first pitch scheduled for 10:35 A.M.
