SCRANTON -- Tuesday evening was "World Book Night", and folks were celebrating all over Scranton.

At a Gerrity's Supermarket, people were handing out free books.

According to organizers, the night is an annual celebration of the famous author William Shakespeare's birth and death, with both events landing on April 23rd.

They say they do this to encourage reading in their communities.

The books handed out for free were "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan, and "Good Omens" By Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman.
