EYNON — Police in Lackawanna County plan to search Staback Park in Eynon after a suspicious canister was found.

The police chief of Jessup was walking his dog Thursday when he found a chemical tank along a trail.

Because of his knowledge in law enforcement, he knew the tank was for a gas that is used to make methamphetamine, a powerful stimulant drug.

“The potential for someone who doesn’t have that knowledge to open that valve or get near that product could be serious injury or even death. So, we were lucky that an officer found that and made the right call on that,” said Archbald Police Chief Tim Trently.

A specially-trained team was called in to dispose of the tank.

Archbald police are investigating.
