JERSEY SHORE -- This weekend, a former wrestling coach from Lycoming County will be honored for a lifetime of service to the sport.
It's been years since Rod Laub coached the Jersey Shore Bulldogs on the wrestling mat.
And even now, his contribution to the sport is a lasting one.
"The tradition he's built here at jersey shore is unmatched," said former wrestling coach Tony Owens.
For more than twenty years starting in the mid 1960's, Laub led the Bulldog wrestling squad to winning seasons.
To him, it was a team effort the community could take pride in.
"The wins, the kids did those things, I was just on the sidelines rooting them on, that's all," said Laub.
Sunday, Laub will be honored in Harrisburg with a Lifetime Service to Wrestling Award from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
Coaches who came after him said there's no doubt, he deserves it.
"We were fortunate enough he set the foundation to give us the opportunity to enjoy the job," said Owens.
Over coach Rod Laub's career at Jersey Shore Area High School, he had a lot of winning teams, and a lot of wrestlers who went far in state tournaments. But no year was more special than 1980, when the squad won a state championship.
"Spent probably half his life in the wrestling room not to mention what he did in college and high school before that," said Dan Muthler who won an individual state title with Laub as his coach in the early 1970's.
Muthler said Laub sacrificed hours, days and years of his life for the wrestling squad.
Laub said he's humbled by the lifetime service award saying he gets to share it with everyone.
"This is sort of amazing to think the wrestling community might think I deserve to be at this."
