PLAINS TOWNSHIP — A water main break has several businesses closed in Luzerne County.

Officials say a 24″ water line broke somewhere along South River Street in Plains Township, near the Wilkes-Barre city line.

According to a spokesperson with the water company, several businesses have been shut down, including McDonald’s.

Water company workers hope to stop the water and set up a temporary service to get water back up and running for homes and businesses affected by Wednesday night.

McDonald’s is closed because of the break. Building Blocks Learning Center had to relocate about 30 children to its other location in Wilkes-Barre. All other businesses in the area are open and operating without bathrooms.

PennDOT inspectors will check out the bridge near the break to determine any structural damage.

Traffic on South River Street is being controlled by flaggers in the area of the break.
