ASHLAND -- A wing tasting competition in Schuylkill County raised money for a local high school sports team.

The North Schuylkill Lady Spartans decided to spice up their fundraising efforts at the Fountain Springs Country Inn near Ashland.  Those who came were able to get a taste of wings and help the girls raise money for their program. There were 16 different flavors of wings from a dozen of vendors.

Newswatch 16's own Bill Wadell and Nikki Krize were judges in the contest. Over 300 people showed up at the event, surprising the coordinators.

"It really turned out way bigger than we ever expected. So it's a great fundraiser," said head coach Dominick Grasso.

Money raised at the wing off will pay for the teams equipment.
