SPRINGVILLE TOWNSHIP — State officials have decided against penalizing a gas compressor operation after an explosion and fire in Susquehanna County last year.
The incident happened in March of 2012 at the Lathrop compressor station in Springville Township.
According to the Department of Environmental Protection, a small gas leak led to an explosion and fire.
As a result of the investigation, DEP has decided that no penalty will be assessed against Williams Energy – the company operating the station — for the explosion and fire or for restarting the facility before DEP inspected it.
DEP had requested that Williams not restart the compressor station until it could be checked out.
