Easter was celebrated Sunday by Christians everywhere.It's the most important holiday on the Christian calendar.
People celebrated the resurrection of Jesus Christ all throughout our area.
Dozens made their way to the Fairview Memorial Park Cemetery in Elmhurst Sunday for the Easter sunrise service.
Rev. Eric Luczak of the Daleville and Maple Lake United Methodist Churches preached the sermon.
The director of the church in Moscow says the event has been going on for more than 25 years and it just keeps getting bigger.
"Every year there's a few new faces. It continues to grow and we really like it. We get the word out through the newspaper and folks continue to come," said Rev. Earl Trygar, director of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. "We set the time based on the observatory. They tell us when the sunrise will be and we set the time and every year the sun rises exactly in the middle of the sermon and the geese come up from the pond every year."
People of all denominations were at the sunrise service in Lackawanna County.
In Scranton, hundreds came to St. Peter's Cathedral on Wyoming Avenue in Scranton for masses throughout the day.
Easter Sunday combines celebration, renewal, and a commitment to be better.
The cathedral also held a mass at 12:15 and at 5 p.m. in Scranton.
