MOUNT CARMEL TOWNSHIP -- Three vehicles were totaled, a business was damaged, and one person was taken to a hospital after a truck carrying coal dust lost control and smashed into a wall.

A total of seven vehicles were damaged, and one person was hurt.

According to police, a tri-axle truck carrying 23 tons of coal dust went over an embankment in Mount Carmel Township. The truck was coming from Columbia County to make a delivery and was going down Wilburton Road from the mid-valley mountain when the driver lost control of the truck.

Authorities said he crashed into two vehicles that were parked outside Car Quest Auto Parts. One of the vehicles went through the front of the building, and the truck carrying the coal dust went down an embankment and landed on a van.

Seven vehicles were either damaged or destroyed and two businesses are heavily damaged. Police say the driver of the coal truck was thrown from the vehicle and taken to a hospital. We are unsure of his condition, but police say he was up and walking before he went to the hospital.

Three people were inside Car Quest Auto Parts at the time of the crash.  They were not hurt. Employees said they felt the ground shake, and it sounded like a bomb went off.

Route 61 in the area of the wreck was reopened after 2 p.m.
