WILKES-BARRE — The Luzerne County District Attorney’s office admitted to investigating a possible drug source in the county’s jail.
The statement was released due to recent questions Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis received asking about a prison investigation.
According to the statement, in early December 2012, a female inmate tested positive in a drug test. Guards searched her cell but found nothing.
During the investigation, detectives interviewed corrections officers and prison personal. Investigators heard rumors that an attorney was involved.
Security and surveillance was increased on visits by that attorney but no evidence of involvement was found.
The inmate later tested negative for drug use and was transferred to a state correctional facility for unrelated reasons.
