WILKES-BARRE -- The Greek flag was raised Monday outside the Luzerne County Courthouse in Wilkes-Barre.

The ceremony, held each year, commemorates the Greeks declaring their independence from the Ottoman Turks on this day in 1821.

Representatives of the Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church in Wilkes-Barre and county officials presided at the ceremony.
