KELLY TOWNSHIP -- Pennsylvania lawmakers have taken the historic first step toward getting out of the liquor business.
Right now, beer can be sold in select supermarkets like the Weis Market in Union County.
But if the current bill to reform the state's liquor laws is passed by the state senate, wine could be added to the shelves in stores, meaning no more state liquor stores.
"This is a big deal, the best opportunity in about 80 years to reform the system and what we want, our priority is, we want to see improved customer access," said Dennis Curtin of Weis Markets.
The house-approved bill now goes to a committee in the state senate which could take weeks to decide whether to amend it and/or vote on overhauling the state liquor system.
