NANTICOKE — Police arrested a business owner in Luzerne County after a woman was reportedly attacked at his bar in Nanticoke.

Authorities arrested Paul Halliday, 38, at his bar, The Prospect Cafe, Monday night after responding to a reported assault.

According to police, when they arrived Halliday nailed the door shut and threatened he would shoot anyone who tried to enter.  He eventually met officers outside behind the bar.

After an investigation, police found Halliday’s girlfriend hurt lying on the bathroom floor. Authorities said she claimed Halliday attacked her and threw her to the ground.

Police believed the woman needed medical attention and called for an ambulance.

Officers said Halliday then became angry, yelling about the cost of the service.  Authorities said he then became hostile and he was arrested.  He was later charged with the assault.

Halliday is also accused of leading police on a chase earlier this month.

Newswatch 16 has also learned that the Prospect Street Cafe is scheduled to close next week.

Nanticoke police tell us Halliday is losing the building because he failed to pay his taxes.
