Race fans in the Poconos have a big decision to make: what to rename the NASCAR race in June.

The June NASCAR race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond is still a few months away. But excitement for that race is starting to gain momentum, mainly because fans are the driving-force behind the name of the June race.

"Three finalists were selected out of almost 2,000 entries. It was narrowed down based on appropriateness, relevance, and how much response each name got," said Nick Igdalsky, Pocono Raceway COO.

The finalists are:

  • Race More. Live Better. 400
  • Pocono for the People 400
  • Party in the Poconos 400

With a roster of possible race names, Newswatch 16 headed to the one place we knew people would be more than happy to weigh in.

VanGilder's Jubilee in Pocono Pines, the long-standing bar and restaurant has deep Pocono Raceway history.

"In the early 70's when we had the motel here, we had many of the racers come and lodge here at the Jubilee Restaurant," said Jubilee co-owner, Cyndi VanGilder.

Workers there see thousands of race fans walk through their doors each year and some of the staff are fans as well, happy to cast their vote with Newswatch 16.

"Out of the three, I like Pocono for the People 400. I think it's more of a personal name," said VanGilder.

"Party in the Pocnos. I think that sounds great for the races, because it pretty much is a party when everybody gets together for the races," said Lynn Parrott, a cashier.

"I like Party in the Poconos 400 because the Poconos is always a good time. It's always a good place to visit, there's lots of cool restaurants and things to do," said Racquel Coleman, a server.
