SCRANTON - Everyone was Irish on Saturday as Scranton hosted its annual St. Patrick's Parade.

Even Mother Nature's Irish eyes were smiling as parade-goers enjoyed sunshine and mild temperatures.

"It is beautiful out, and it just puts you in such a great mood," said one person.

At the 52nd annual St. Patrick's Parade, every sparkle, spangle and musical instrument reflected the shining sun

"Oh, it's gorgeous," gushed Christina Whalen of Tobyhanna. "Good friends and a good parade. Just having a wonderful time. It's a wonderful experience."

From crazy cars to curious costumes, there was plenty to keep the crowd entertained.

Half the show is on the sidelines as parade-goers rocked an amazing variety of green hats. What other holiday gives everyone a chance to wear their heart's fancy on their heads?

"You gotta have a hat," exclaimed Donna Miller of Lackawaxen. "Everyone needs a hat at the parade, and clackers."

Even Lincoln, a dog, was looking pretty sharp in his "houndstooth" cap.

"That's a homemade hat," said Lincoln's owner, Kate Golden. "My mother's very crafty and she made it for parade day."

The warm day gave folks a chance to show off their Irish spirit.

"Whether I am 23 years old or I am 60 years old, I will dress up every single St. Patrick's Day. I love it. It just makes me so happy, clearly," said Kaitlin Siegfried of Wilkes-Barre.

After months of winter, a day of goodies and green seemed like the perfect way to welcome spring.
