Police: Men Caught Stealing from Flood-damaged Home

DURYEA – Police in Duryea say they caught two men Saturday stealing metal from a flood-damaged home.

Duryea police first reported the arrests on the the department’s Facebook page.

According to police, David Callahan and Eric Burgerhoff of Pittston broke into an abandoned home on Main Street in Duryea and removed metal pipes. When police arrived shortly after 3 p.m. Saturday, they found the pipes piled on the back porch.

Callahan and Burgerhoff were arrested and arraigned in Luzerne County on charges including burglary and criminal trespass. Burgerhoff is locked up; Callahan was released without having to post bail.
