TOBYHANNA — Thousands of workers in our area now know what will happen to them if federal budget cuts continue unchanged.

Tobyhanna Army Deport announced today that more than 5,000 workers will be furloughed for 22 unpaid days between April and September.

The federal budget cuts that are part of the so called sequester would mean $309 million less for Tobyhanna.

Because of the impending cuts, Tobyhanna has put a freeze on hiring, is restricting purchasing supplies, has limited travel, and is delaying upgrades on equipment.

Also, 150 employees at the depot have agreed to early retirement.

The facility in Monroe County repairs electronic equipment for the U.S. Army.
