KINGSTON – Investigators in Luzerne County filed charges against a business owner who is accused of stealing more than $38,000 from bank accounts with money set aside for a non-profit hunting club in Wyoming County.

Robert Morgan Jr. of Dallas was arraigned on two felony charges of theft at hearing in Kingston on Tuesday and was released without having to post bail.

Detectives accuse Morgan of taking the money from PCN Bank accounts for the Old Hickory Hunting Club near Laceyville in Wyoming County, when he served as the non-profit’s treasurer from 2007 to 2010.

According to court documents, 29 checks that were written out of the hunting club’s accounts were later deposited into bank accounts for Morgan’s electrical contracting business on Main Street in Luzerne Borough.

Detective Thomas Paratore told Newswatch 16 that investigators searched through more than 3,000 pages of bank records and financial documents before charges were filed.

“It appears that the trust was put into their treasurer and based on the investigation it shows that money is missing now,” said Paratore. “This is a lot of money. In excess of $38,000 is what we`re able to prove at this time. We have a long battle ahead of us, we`re going to battle through the courts."
