CHESTNUTHILL TOWNSHIP---State police believe what happened at a home in Chestnuthill Township in Monroe County last month was anything but typical.

Last month, investigators said Bernadette O'Reilly opened the door of her home to what looked like a postal worker, a woman wearing a blue hat, thick eye glasses and a wig.

Then, troopers said that woman handed O'Reilly an empty mail package and then shot her in abdomen before getting in a car and driving away.

Now, according to a search warrant, investigators believe that so-called postal worker was actually O'Reilly's mother-in-law in disguise.

"It's just shocking. I would never think anything like that would happen around here," said Jeff Vanskirk of Stroudsburg.

According to the search warrant, investigators believe the mother-in-law rented a car in Wisconsin, drove hundreds of miles to the Poconos disguised herself as a postal worker and shot her daughter-in-law.

According to the paperwork, O'Reilly and her husband, were thinking of divorce and the mother-in-law's cell phone records show she was in the area when the shooting happened.

"I can't believe somebody would drive down here from Wisconsin and shoot the daughter-in-law. I believe that's what happened but they've got to be out of their mind to do something like that, it's just ridiculous. I don't know why. Why would you shoot the daughter in law? That's crazy? Because she's divorcing your son? Come on, divorce happens every day. It ain't a reason to kill somebody or try to kill somebody," said Joseph Brue of Brodheadsville.

"It's unbelievable, I'm just I'm in shock, I can't believe it. Just like the other story, the sinister minister what's going on in Monroe County?" said Karen Haggerty-Berger of Neola.

The mother-in-law has not been charged.
