Security Beefed Up In Hazleton Area

HAZLE TOWNSHIP — The Hazleton Area School District has increased police presence in all schools following two shootings in the city last month.

Metal detectors have been used at the high school since last summer.

The superintendent tells us the school board is looking into buying eight more metal detectors for the elementary and middle schools and hiring additional armed guards or school resource officers.

Two people were arrested after two incidents of gunfire last week.
