SUNBURY -- A well-known media figure in Northumberland County has passed away.
Lois Haddon was chairwoman of the Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation, and a volunteer in her community.
Employees at Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation near Shamokin Dam delivered the sad news that their chairwoman, Lois Haddon died.
"Haddon passed away at Nottingham Village in Northumberland, surrounded by her four children. She was 87," Sara Bartlett said.
Lois Haddon and her family have operated Sunbury Broadcasting Corporation for about 80 years. Lois served as the company's chairwoman for the past decade.
"She was such a sweet lady. Whether it was her husband, when he was still alive, he would bring his dog up and she would bring her grandchildren up," Drew Kelly said.
Employees say Lois had a big impact on the company, which has five radio stations in Central Pennsylvania. Program Director Drew Kelly says Lois never missed an event for the company.
"It's not always that you get to see your chairwoman of the board or owners at the events, but she did come to them and treat us like family," Kelly said.
Lois Haddon spent decades volunteering with the American Red Cross and Meals on Wheels. She was also very active with several area hospitals, including Evangelical Community Hospital.
"She was very supportive of the hospital, very supportive of our events. I enjoyed having her when she would come visit the hospital," Tami Radecke said.
Tami Radecke is the Vice President of Community Relations at Evangelical Community Hospital near Lewisburg. She remembers Lois as a woman who loved her community, and most of all, loved her family.
"She was just very proud of her family. That carried through for everything that she did," Radecke said.
Lois Haddon was 87 years old.
