NANTICOKE -- A procession of law enforcement personnel headed to say farewell to a corrections officer killed in the line of duty.

Family, friends, even strangers are paying their respects Friday night to Officer Eric Williams' family.

He was killed by an inmate at a federal prison on Monday.

Hundreds of mourners lined up outside Greater Nanticoke Area High School to say goodbye to Eric Williams.

Many knew Williams and his family.

“Really shocked, I couldn`t believe it. It`s very senseless and really, really sad,” said Francesca Klinger.

“Very sad for his parents. No parent should have to go through this,” said Sue Klinger

Many in attendance were fellow members of law enforcement, who know all too well the dangers of the job.

An honor guard makes to point to attend the funerals of their fallen brothers and sisters.

“The honor guard has members from Oregon, California, Nevada, surviving families,” said Capt. Steve Dizmon, correctional peace officer.

Officials say he was attacked and killed by an inmate at a federal prison near Waymart.
