FORTY FORT – One school district in Luzerne County took extra safety precautions on Friday, after police sent out a statewide alert about an online threat about planned violence inside an elementary school somewhere in Pennsylvania.

The superintendent at Wyoming Valley West School District said administrators decided on Thursday night to tell special guests invited to read at five elementary schools for “Read Across America Day” to stay home, to reduce the amount of visitors inside the schools on Friday.

Kingston Police notified the district about a statewide law enforcement alert, which said someone from out-of-state had posted a vague threat on an online chat room, saying that there would be a shooting at an elementary school somewhere in Pennsylvania on March 1.

Authorities in Harrisburg said they are still investigating the threats, which were determined to be not credible.
