SOUTH ABINGTON TOWNSHIP — Fourth graders at South Abington Elementary in Lackawanna County spent part of their school day jumping rope.

For the twelfth year in a row, a jumpathon for the American Heart Association was held at the school near Clarks Summit.

The students have been practicing for the past seven weeks, while raising money for the heart association.

Organizers say the event teaches kids about the importance of exercise and helping others.

“Well, we’re all jump roping and it’s fun because we’re doing it together. And it’s great to be a part of it because I’m jumping for my uncle who has heart disease. And I’m really happy to be here,” said Emily McCade.

The students are hoping to raise more than $2,000 for the American Heart Association.
