LEWISBURG -- It took a jury in Union County less than one hour to decide the fate of a man on trial for a crash last year that killed his girlfriend.

The jury found Christopher Wirth, 22, guilty of all charges including homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.

His girlfriend Allison Vonneida, 22, was thrown out of the car and died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.

During the two-day trial, investigators told the jury that Wirth's blood-alcohol level was over the legal limit.

Wirth and Vonneida were dating at the time of the crash and have a three-year-old daughter together.

Vonneida's family and friends say they are happy with the guilty verdict and say it gives them some closure.

"That still does not bring back the fact that we had a daughter and a sister.  But I'm happy,” said Joyce Vonneida, the victim’s mother.

"I couldn't be more happy with that.  It's been a long time coming but it still doesn't bring her back,” said the victim’s sister Wendy Vonneida.

"It's just been a huge weight lifted off my shoulders.  I've been waiting for this day for so long already,” said Desiree Cronin, the victim’s friend.

Christopher Wirth faces a maximum of 41 years in prison.  He's currently locked up in Union county while he awaits sentencing.
