MONROE COUNTY -- Love was in the air at Mount Airy Casino Resort on Valentine's Day.

Hundreds of married couples, some together for half a century or more, pledged their love to each other again at a special wedding renewal extravaganza.

A nightclub inside the resort was transformed into a wedding arch and reception hall for the wedding renewal extravaganza.

"He said let's go over and renew our vows. What do you think? I thought it was great, so I said let's do it!" said Joanne Weltmer of Cresco who has been married for nearly 50 years to her husband, Barry.

"I wanted to come to Mount Airy because my parents honeymoon was here and I think I was created here in 1960," said Claire Kanterman of Bushkill.

"It was very nice, we'll probably come back and do it again," agreed her husband, Steve.

Mount Airy officials said they have had this event one before, in 2009 with 50 couples. This time around, more than 240 couples attended.

"When I was standing up there, you could look out and see tears and it was really a pretty emotional and love filled time. So it was great," said officiant Dr. Catherine Thayer.

There was a wedding singer and a wedding cake for the guests, too.

For some, the renewal ceremony was perhaps more fun than their actual weddings.

"The first time was scary, I had no idea what I was getting into. This was a lot better," laughed Barry Weltmer.

"It was beautiful and it gave me and Michael to have an opportunity in front of a lot of people to show our love," said Angel Marsico of Taylor.
