SCRANTON -- Tax time is here, and some people are getting their returns done early and for free, thanks to some student helpers.

Accounting students at the University of Scranton and volunteers from the United Way are once again donating their time to the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program.

The workers prepare basic tax returns for senior citizens, and middle and low income families free of charge.

All of the volunteers are certified and students get job experience at the same time.

“It feels great.  That's why I do it.  I love the feeling I get just by being able to help,” said Angela Kokas. “I get to put my degree to good use.”

Organizers tell Newswatch 16 they expect to prepare returns for more than 1,600 people this tax season.
