HAZLETON — Illegal immigration was the hot topic on ABC’s Face the Nation Sunday morning, with Pennyslvania congressman Lou Barletta weighing in on the debate.

President Obama is pushing the senate to come up with an immigration reform bill. The goal is to strengthen border security, improve enforcement of existing immigration laws, and eventually provide a way for the 11 million undocumented people currently in the United States to become citizens.

It is the last part that is the biggest sticking point.

“When we’re offering a pathway to citizenship without knowing we could secure our borders. To put it in simple terms, you wouldn’t replace your carpet at home if you still had a hole in the roof, and that’s what we’re talking about. When you are waving a carrot, such as american citizenship, without securing the borders, that number that we have today will double or even triple,” said Barletta

Barletta said he is all for immigration reform, but he does not support the proposed senate bill.
