PUNXSUTAWNEY –The shadow was nowhere to be found.
A long-standing tradition in Jefferson County took place Saturday. Thousands celebrate Groundhog Day every year in Punxsutawney.
Folks come in droves to see if the groundhog, better known as Punxsutawney Phil, has a forecast of their liking.
It was the 127th time Phil was yanked out of his burrow in front of a crowd. This year, the groundhog did not see his shadow. For those who believe the folklore, it means spring is right around the corner.
Organizers said it was the largest crowd ever to come out for the event. After Phil made his way back into his burrow, cheers of celebration were heard as everyone joined in the end of winter party.
