SOUTH MONTROSE -- There is work being done on a new hospital near Montrose, but it's just for animals.

Newswatch 16 got a look at the progress on Thursday.

Construction crews have been busy for months building the new Southtown Veterinary Hospital in South Montrose.

Soon the place will be filled with dogs and cats getting care.

"I'm terrified more than anything because it is such a huge project, but for Montrose area, Susquehanna County area and Counties bordering here, this is necessary," said Dr. Bob Sullivan of Southtown Veterinary Hospital.

Dr. Sullivan gave Newswatch 16 a tour around what will be his new veterinary home. It will have state of the art examination areas, operating rooms, even a new physical therapy facility for pets.

Dr. Sullivan said the expansion is being done because animal owners want cutting edge care.

"People are expecting more care for their animals just as they are expecting more for themselves, and we are trying to be able to provide that full service care," said Sullivan. "Everyday we say we need a bigger hospital. Right now we're working out of two converted apartments, about 1,000 square feet, and we're moving to a 5,000 square foot facility."

Dr. Jessica Freda is the new veterinarian on staff. She's looking forward to all the extra space and new facilities.

"I'm so excited. I'm a new graduate, and not many new grads get to come to a facility that's like this," said Freda.

The new building is being built not only to care for sick pets, but to comfort their owners with design and decor.

For now it will have set hours, but the place is designed to one day be a 24 hour a day hospital.

"It's unbelievable. I can't believe we're going to be in here as soon as we are. It's pretty cool," said Freda.

The Southtown Veternary Hospital plans to be in its new home by April 1.
