WILKES-BARRE — One person is dead after gunfire in Luzerne County.
It happened around 2:30 a.m. Thursday in the 100 block of Scott Street in Wilkes-Barre.
Police said an officer on patrol heard gunshots and responded to the scene.
Neighbors said they heard four gunshots.
Detectives are still trying to sort through the few leads that they have.
Officers were on scene just moments after the gunfire. Police are only saying this appears to be an isolated incident and not a random act of violence.
The man who was shot in the chest died. Investigators said the other man with a gunshot wound to the head was rushed to the hospital. His injuries were described as life threatening. Their names have not been released.
Officers are expected to return to Scott Street Thursday afternoon looking for any evidence or people who may have heard or seen what happened.
Police are not saying whether they believe the two men shot each other or if anyone else was involved.
Family members of both shooting victims were at the scene talking to detectives earlier. Newswatch 16 talked with officials at the district attorney’s office who said they are assisting with this deadly shooting and no one is in custody.
Wilkes-Barre police are asking anyone with information to call them at 570-826-8106.
