LACKAWANNA COUNTY -- The snow is over, at least for now. Many major highways are just wet at noon while some back roads are still snow-covered.

That wasn't the case earlier Wednesday when several inches of snow fell in parts of our area.

It was a scene that many either passed by or ended up in: stuck in the snow.

A tow truck had to pull a big rig off Business Route 6 near the Viewmont Mall after the tractor-trailer’s tires just couldn’t get a grip.

Other area roadways including interstates were completely covered before sunrise.

While many area highways appeared to be just wet as the morning commute continued, there were a few slick spots that surprised some motorists including those involved in this multiple vehicle crash in the Dunmore area along Interstate 81.

“The roads were pretty good and then it was suddenly, you know, it was clear but it must have been black ice or something,” said Joan Logie of Moosic.

Logie was on her way to the dentist when she said she hit a major slick spot on I-81 around 9 a.m. Her jeep slid into the back of a PennDOT truck, smashing her hood and shattering her windshield.

State police said two other vehicles also lost control in the same area around the same time. No one was hurt.

As if driving wasn't rough enough for some, try shoveling this latest blast of winter weather.

Bob Bruce of Mayfield was in downtown Scranton early to help clear away the snow at the federal courthouse.

“It’s very heavy because of the water content in it. It’s like having an extra three to four inches on top of what you got. You got to be careful when removing the snow. It’s heavy and it’s a back breaker.”

A back breaker that's almost behind us all until the next storm hits.

Just because the snow has stopped doesn’t mean all of the roads and streets are clear. If you're heading out this afternoon be prepared to run into some slick spots especially on side streets and rural roads.
