HAMLIN -- As workers at Lori's Corner Kitchen in Hamiln cooked up hot lunches, customers watched President Obama reveal his plans to try to reduce gun violence.
Steve Mancuso of Archbald owns many guns and is frustrated to hear 23 executive orders for tougher gun control are now signed.
"I don’t believe in big government. I mean, they keep taking and taking and taking and taking and the next thing you know, there’s nothing left of the Constitution. Nothing left," said Mancuso.
Walter Carlson has been around guns his entire life as the former Chief Detective in Lackawanna County. He couldn't see how anyone could be upset about what Obama is asking for.
"Actually, I don’t think he’s asked for anything other than what’s on the books right now, other than the magazines," said Carlson.
Carlson's grandson, an 8th grade student, says Obama's request for Congress to ban assault rifles and high-capacity magazines make him feel safer.
"I do go hunting and I do use guns, but I don’t think there’s any need for assault rifles or giant clips," said Matt Smith of Moscow.
Just shortly after the president’s announcement the last semi-automatic rifle at the Hunter’s Gallery was sold and it’s already out of high-capacity magazines. People there say they’re nervous for what’s to come.
"I don’t think anything that the president has called for will do anything," said Don Palmer of Moscow.
Palmer says he's stocking up on ammunition and as a member of the NRA, he feels there's only one way to protect kids and families from danger.
"I think the only way to stop this problem about bad people with guns doing what they’re doing is good people with guns," said Palmer.
The National Rifle Association released a statement Wednesday afternoon in response to the President's announcement saying:
"...Attacking firearms and ignoring children is not a solution to the crisis we face as a nation. Only honest, law-abiding gun owners will be affected and our children will remain vulnerable to the inevitability of more tragedy."
Now all sides will just have to wait to see what, if anything, Congress does about gun control.
