MONROE CO. – A suspect in a crash that killed an elderly man surrendered to State Police in Monroe County.

James York Jr. of Effort surrendered Tuesday afternoon at the State Police barracks at Fern Ridge. York faces charges including Homicide by Motor Vehicle while DUI in connection with the death of Walter Machalick, 85, earlier this year.

Machalick was hit and killed in March as he picked up his mail from his mailbox along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township near Effort. York’s car flipped several times following the crash.

State police waited for test results before pursuing charges against York. They now accuse him of being under the influence at the time of the deadly crash and of driving with a revoked license.

York is currently locked up in Monroe County.
