TANNERSVILLE - Some people celebrated Christmas Day on the slopes in the Poconos.

However, not everyone strapped on skis. Some opted to watch from a distance.

Hitting the ski slopes is a tradition for some people who have come to the Poconos for years during their winter break.

"We stay at the Chateau. There's a lot to do," said Michelle Goldstein of New Jersey.

"I used to ski, but I`m trying snowboarding, first time," said Eli Thaler of New York.

Workers at Camelback Mountain Resort say Christmas Day has always been a busy time for them. In fact, it's one of the busiest days of the season for the ski resort.

Skiers and snowboarders line up early each year at Camelback near Tannersville to get some much-needed time on the trails.

"This is my first time and I always like to watch my brother, and now I just want to try it. It looks really cool," said Abby Goldstein of New Jersey.

For some, the snow on the slopes looks so much better from a distance. Especially from a distance, from inside the lodge.

"I still have to see about when I should go up on the slopes since I haven't skied in, like, two decades, probably," said Walter Cevallos of Tobyhanna.

Walter says he's looking to get back into skiing by taking some lessons, but not just yet. Right now he's just enjoying passing the time.

"Meanwhile, I'm waiting for the supermarkets to open up so we can get our Christmas dinner since we didn't go out last night to shop for it," said Cevallos.

But, for parents who take their kids to ski for the day, they, too, like to watch instead of participate.

"I`m going to be in the lodge, drinking hot cocoa," said Goldstein.

"As of now, I'll be inside watching and we'll see how things go," said David Stern of New York.

Camelback Mountain Ski Resort opens at 8:30 a.m. each day this week and closes at 9:00 p.m.
