DUNMORE -- A man pleaded guilty in Lackawanna County, for his role in a fire that sent several people to the hospital.

The man from Dunmore who admits to the crime, faces more than 60 years behind bars.

Mark Loughney, 35, stood in Lackawanna County court, and admitted setting a house fire that sent several people to the hospital and injured police and fire officials.

Prosecutors said Loughney, who is the son of the Mayor of Dunmore, set the blaze on July 16 at a home on Electric Street in Dunmore after an altercation with the people inside.

Loughney dumped gasoline in several rooms to make the fire spread faster.

Two people were burned so severely, they had to be flown to Lehigh Valley Burn Center, two others were treated and released.

Some emergency workers were also hurt.

Prosecutors said they believe there was some sort of fight between Loughney and some of the people inside the home.

"There was a retaliation by Mark against the people in the home at the time, that was our theory in the case, that's still the theory in our case, and we believe the events that led up to it, are a motive," said Mark Giannotti, Lackawanna County A.D.A.

Loughney's attorney said he is a good person who comes from a good family, and he is very sorry for what he did.

"He is very remorseful, he even asked me last night, can I say sorry, and I told him he'll have his time, that will come at sentencing he is a very contrite man from this," said Joe D'Andrea, Loughney's attorney.

Loughney faces up to 60 years behind bars, he is scheduled to be sentenced in January. He is locked up in the Lackawanna County Jail.
