If the predictions of an ancient civilization are accurate the world will end tomorrow.

The Mayan calendar ends on the 12/21/12 and the hype about this date have been going on for years.

Now it’s finally here, so do you believe it’s the end?

If the Mayans were correct, the world is coming to end.

That ancient and seemingly all-knowing culture from Central American set their calendar with an end date of 12/21/12.

With a potential apocalypse looming, oddly holiday shoppers at the Mall at Steamtown carried on without a care in world, a world that could be ending.

“It’s definitely just going to be a regular Friday,” said Alex Sechrist of Mountain Top. “I’m not worried.”

“I don’t believe it because the world was supposed to end in 2000, on 6/6/6, and 11/11 and I think it’s just another media thing,” said Cooper Sechrist of Mountain Top.

“It’s bound to happen eventually, if it comes now, it come now, if it doesn’t, it doesn’t,” said Amy Sherman of Scranton.

Others did seem concerned.

“Yes, I do think it’s going to end and I’m really, really, really scared of what’s going to happen,” said Jordan Printz of Scranton.

“If the world was going to end I’d be partying,” said Dale Gilmore of Scranton.

Kildare’s Pub in Scranton is offering a place to do just that. The restaurant is hosting an end of the world party Friday night at 10 p.m.

“We’re seeing if we can get the re-runs of 2012 or one of those like disaster movie kind of things,” said Simon Hewson, general manager of Kildare’s. “One of the favorite songs tomorrow will be REM, playing ‘It’s The End of the World as We Know It’.”

So if the world is ending, then eat, drink and be merry to excess, right up to the last minute.

“I’ll get a whole bunch of fish and chips, couple Guinnesses,” said Keith Hoffman of Pittston. “Wings, everything, everything that’s bad for me that I probably shouldn’t be eating now anyway.”
