MOOSIC -- Christmas came a little early for a few hundred seniors in Lackawanna County.
A company specializing in at-home senior care played Santa Claus Tuesday, delivering gifts to those who otherwise might go without.
"Look at this, that’s just what I love," said Eloise Granza of Moosic.
Granza, 91, and her 66-year old son Bobby were overwhelmed with joy, opening presents that will keep them warm, but mostly warmed their hearts.
"With this, nobody ever does this for me," said Eloise.
These gifts are part of Home Instead Senior Care's 'Be a Santa to a Senior' program. They partner with Meals on Wheels, Minooka Subaru, and other local organizations to help the elderly in need, bringing tears of joy to many.
"Seeing that little bit of joy that from something so small as a pair of socks or a blanket, it touches these people in such a deep way," said Home Instead Senior Care Community Service Representative Jessica Engel.
For Eloise, it's a Christmas celebration she wasn't even sure she would have.
"I didn’t think I’d be here because I had, a year ago March, I had respiratory arrest and I thought I was whoop, I was gone," said Eloise Granza.
"Just coming here is a miracle in itself so to speak," said Bobby Granza.
About 800 seniors throughout the Lackawanna County area will be receiving gifts this Christmas, thanks to the generous donations from people throughout the community.
"It’s wonderful. It’s through the community effort that this was made possible. This is the folks throughout Lackawanna County, Luzerne County who choose to make a difference in somebody else’s life and it’s amazing, it’s wonderful," said Meals on Wheels Director of Volunteer Services Shannon Cooper.
Even with a greater need, enough donations were made to make this event possible.
Eloise and Robert say they can't say thank you enough.
"I hope they have a Christmas like mine, I hope everybody loves them," said Eloise Granza.
