PITTSTON -- Pittston police are investigating a case of child luring.

Officers said it happened along Butler Street around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, just as kids got off the school bus and were walking home.

According to reports, two men in a dark purple Jeep Cherokee yelled to several youngsters to get in the vehicle.

In one case, police said the passenger in that Jeep opened his door as if he was going to grab a child.

Police said a 12-year-old boy and 14-year-old boy ran home and told their parents what happened.

Newswatch 16 spoke with one of those children and his mother. They did not want to give their names.

"I was kind of scared because I didn’t know what was going on," said the boy, who said when the men yelled to get inside the vehicle, he sounded "angry."

"It’s sad, when he told me I almost started crying, it’s horrible. I hope they catch the guy, I really do," said the child's mother.

Police said they are looking for two men in their 20s; the passenger is described as wearing a dark hoodie with brown hair.

"We’re pulling out all the stops. We’re increasing patrols especially at the bus stops, alerting other departments, other jurisdictions and making sure as many people as possible are aware of what happened so they can take the proper precautions to keep their kids safe," said Sgt. Neil Murphy of the Pittston police department.

Some parents said what happened makes them angry.

Al Ferretti lives on Butler Street and has a 14-year-old son.

"We can’t have this. I mean with what just happened, the shooting and stuff, it’s just a shame. You don’t know what to do with the kids anymore. Can’t send them to school, can’t send them home, let them walk the streets."
