UNION TOWNSHIP-Some special needs students at Northwest Area School District near Shickshinny made  the cookies with the help of their teachers for troops in the Middle East.

A teacher, Lurena Gimble says it was explained to the students how some people can't come home for Christmas, and that's why it would be a good idea for some soldiers to get a taste of home this holiday season from some very kind hearts.

Another teacher, Kimberly McLendon says it will let the troops know that there are people here who support them.

The cookie making project was the idea of Tom Adams, a parent of one of the students and who also served in the Marine Corps. He says troops overseas will appreciate something like this.

The students made hundreds of cookies and hope to have them shipped out in order to arrive before Christmas.
