DUNMORE -- In a school district in Lackawanna County, the attention is on a championship football game Friday!

The Dunmore Bucks are headed to Hershey to try to win a state title, and Bucktown is at fever pitch!

The Dunmore Bucks are focused on that big game Friday afternoon when they'll play for the state championship.

The community is just as focused on the game, and over the past few weeks has shown big signs of support.

All over downtown Dunmore you'll see signs of the season, football season that is, and it's reached its pinnacle with the Dunmore High School Bucks preparing to play for the state championship.

There's a sign of support nearly everywhere you look. Frank Larnerd shows support of his grandson, outside his jewelry store on Drinker Street.

“It's very very exciting, our young men are like celebrities now. The community is feeding them every day,” said Larnerd of LaNard Jewelers.

Cara Lowe feeds a lot people in Dunmore at her shop, Cara Mia's Deli down the street. They hung up signs a few weeks ago as a sendoff for the bucks, and fans headed to Hershey for the game.

“Friday we'll be busy. There won't be too many locals. Not too many Dunmorians will be coming in for sandwiches, but we'll be here and we'll be rooting for the bucks,” said Lowe.

For Dunmore natives, like Cara, all the signs are a nostalgic sight. The bucks are playing for a state title for the third time, and no matter the result, they said, it's really all about community.

“The community support is unbelievable, and even support from other towns who have been bringing signs to Dunmore,” said Lowe.

The Dunmore Bucks had an almost perfect season, with only one loss to Old Forge.

“It feels great, and it really helps the players out with all the fan support, all the signs, it feels great,” said Leo Ancherani of Dunmore Candy Kitchen.

The excitement in town will calm come game time, since so many bucks fans are headed to Hershey.

“They're going to have the caravans all going, it's going to be a really great time. There's going to be so many people in Hershey. They already have tailgates planned. It's going to be a really nice day,” said Carmella Mataloni of Dunmore.

The Dunmore Bucks play for the state championship against Clairton High School from near Pittsburgh. The game starts Friday at 1 p.m. in Hershey.
