NEW MILFORD — In Susquehanna County, a business showed its appreciation to one local community on Thursday. Cindy’s Cafe in New Milford gave away free food to all of its loyal customers all afternoon. The owner tells Newswatch 16 she believes it’s important to give back.

Smiling faces and a warm friendly atmosphere. That’s what loyal customers said about Cindy’s Cafe in New Milford.

One customer, Nicole Mullen, recently moved to Susquehanna County. She tries to come to Cindy’s almost every meal she can. She and others said, when you walk in, the feeling just brings you home.

“It’s literally like someone is back in your own kitchen making you food, it’s just a hometown feel, and that’s what I love,” said Nicole Mullen of New Milford.

“It’s like a holiday everyday in here, it’s a crazy place, it’s a small place, but it’s always packed,” said Chrissy Canini of New Milford.

“Good food, good cooks, good everything!” said Phyllis Hitchcock of Johnson City, NY.

The owner, Cindy Hall, decided to give back to everyone who makes her business such a success and help out a little during some tough economic times.

She and her employees whipped up several dishes and different deserts. From baked ziti to broccoli salad, baked breads, cookies and other desserts. All were made from scratch.

“To thank them for supporting me all year, and they appreciate it, and I certainly appreciate them,” said Hall.

Hall said they host the party at Cindy’s Cafe every year to give back to the community, and she said it’s a tradition that has lasted more than 30 years.

“My mom used to be in the restaurant business, and she started it and so when we opened here I just carried it on,” said Hall.

The tradition helped make the holiday season a little brighter for about a hundred hungry customers.
