Friday morning's freezing rain led to a deadly crash and caused a tough commute for drivers in many parts of our area.

Icy roads in Lackawanna County in particular caused several crashes, including a deadly wreck on the turnpike.

Police tell us a tractor trailer crashed here near Clarks Summit on I-476, just before 8 a.m.

Vehicles were backed up in both directions.

State police tell us at least one person was killed. That person's identity has not been released.

Authorities also tell us there was a second crash near the tractor trailer wreck.

At least one person was taken to the hospital in that wreck.

The PA Turnpike Commission has temporarily lowered the speed limit on the northeast extension because of icy road conditions.

Traffic was at a standstill while emergency crews responded and PennDOT crews salted the roads.

Most highways in that area reopened after 10:30 a.m.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. near the Main Street exit to Stroudsburg, according to state police.

Police tell us three people had minor injuries.

Traffic was stopped for about an hour.

That part of I-80 is re-opened.
