SCRANTON -- The alleged victim in a sex abuse scandal in Lackawanna County took the stand in court Monday.

The accuser, now 23, detailed her relationship with Old Forge Police Chief Larry Semenza.

She testified that Semenza had inappropriate contact with her and gave her gifts when she was just 15 years old. The woman also said she thought they were in a relationship, even though the chief was married.

"It also helps in giving an insight into a 15 year old's mind and what that would mean to a 15-year-old girl, to be with someone all the time, to be receiving gifts from someone, to be engaged in those kind of acts with someone. You heard her say, in her mind, they were in a relationship," said Assistant District Attorney Jennifer McCambridge.

A judge denied Semenza's request to dismiss charges.

Semenza is formally charged with felony unlawful contact with a minor, and misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure, corruption of minors, and indecent assault. He is currently suspended with pay.

Suspended police Captain Jamie Krenitsky, and former Old Forge firefighter Walter Chiavacci are also charged with sex crimes involving the same young woman.
