HUGHESVILLE -- It was already turning out to be another big first-day of rifle deer season at the country store here near Hughesville.
This is where hunters head with their trophies to have the deer processed, before it's mounted on their walls at home.
Craig Hoyt had his first buck, an eight pointer, shortly after 7:00 a.m. near Williamsport.
"He just all of a sudden appeared out of the woods and it was all over in 5 minutes," said Hoyt.
Hoyt said it's the biggest deer he's ever shot and he's getting steaks and ground venison from the animal. But Hoyt's dad, Ralph, said hunting together has its own rewards.
"It was a very good morning, good day, great to be father, son, grandfather hunting, very nice," said Ralph Hoyt.
"We were all in different tree stands, and ten after 7 heard the bang, thought that's pretty close, then we heard better come give me a hand," said Craig Hoyt.
Folks here at the country store know full well that when hunters do get their deer, it may take a while to get to the processing center.
They have this nighttime drop off where they can leave their kills inside this cooler overnight. Anytime after 10 p.m. up until the wee morning hours.
"Everybody's happy when they come in, happy to bring their deer in, happy to take their deer out," said Bill Brooks, of the Country Store.
Employees at the Country Store will no doubt be busy over the next couple weeks with each new deer that's brought in.
"We process all their meat, do ring bologna, sausage, anything you want really, so it's good business this time of year especially, yes it is," said Brooks.
