SAYRE---Howie's Pizza and Subs in Sayre caught fire around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday and could not be saved.

The restaurant was a popular spot in the small community.

"My daughter worked here back in 2006 I'm sure it will be missed by a lot of people, I'm sure it will be missed by a lot of locals," said Karen Sykas who lives nearby.

People who live in the area said they were surprised by the blaze and the loss of a local business.

"I've been to Howie's a lot of times, in fact I was there a couple weekends ago when we had pizza. It's a great restaurant, the folks that work there are wonderful people the people who own it are great. I'm really sad to see this happen in the town," said Debby Moore who was walking her dogs past the rubble of the restaurant Tuesday night.

"They had some of like the best pizza that's the only pizza I will eat, cause that's the only place that I like and their mozzarella sticks are the best," said Aubrey Soltis-gray who stopped by to look at the ruined pizza place with friends.

"They're really at the corner of the town, right here in the center of everything so I work for a school district and the students were talking today about how much they''re going to miss it and they hope it comes back, so they're really hoping they rebuild and come back into the community," said Moore.

No one was injured in fire.

The cause is still under investigation.
