POTTSVILLE -- A Saturday morning fire in Schuylkill County forced two people inside the burning home to jump from a third floor window.

Fire crews said flames broke out at a double block home on North 16th street in Pottsville around 11:15 a.m.

According to crews, there was a man and a 13-year-old girl home at the time who had to jump from the window to escape the blaze.

Authorities said the pair suffered serious injuries from the jump and also needed treatment for smoke inhalation. They were flown to the hospital.

Crews said their side of the double block is destroyed but the other half was not badly damaged.

A fire marshal is investigating to determine what caused the blaze to start.  Firefighters told Newswatch 16 they believe the fire started in the kitchen.

The fire chief said if the man and teenage girl did not jump they probably wouldn't have made it out of the house alive.
