NORTH CENTER TOWNSHIP — A man in Columbia County is locked up charged Friday with assaulting his baby in Columbia County.

State police said Andrew Hess, 18, admitted to twisting the legs of his daughter, Elvira, to make her stop crying.

The child is two and a half months old.

Doctors at Geisinger Medical Center near Danville said the child’s leg was broken when she was admitted last week.  Further examination showed the child’s leg was broken two other times before that.

The baby is now in shelter care. Hess is charged with child endangerment and assault.
