TROY TOWNSHIP -- What started out as a small drive to help victims of Hurricane Sandy turned into an effort that filled more than 150 boxes with things such as clothing and cleaning supplies.
Box by box, donations for victims of Hurricane Sandy were put on a truck near Troy. The staff at Pro Care Physical Therapy collected the items for people in Brooklyn, New York.
"Us being from a small community, we decided to pull together and support those who are in desperate need and don't have anything," said Michelle Wilson.
Michelle Wilson and the staff at Pro Care Physical Therapy started collecting items on Monday. Fast forward to Friday, and there are 150 boxes and counting!
"Brand new clothes, bags from department stores, things like that. They have clearly sacrificed and gone out of their way. It's just been so wonderful to see, especially in such a small town," said Brandie Frye.
Pro Care Physical Therapy's Wyalusing location was destroyed in last year's flood. Wilson said some of the people who donated to the drive were flood victims themselves, and they wanted to help those who were affected by Hurricane Sandy.
"I know people there have donated their stuff that they probably have gotten when they were devastated by the flood," said Wilson.
The drive collected a lot more donations than the staff expected.
"All of these things started coming in. We were storing in offices, back rooms, bathrooms. All of these boxes were all over the place, and it's been absolutely amazing," said Wilson.
All of the items will be driven to Brooklyn, New York this weekend.
