The head of Boscov’s told us why his department store chain is getting rid of its appliance and electronics departments.

The retail store, based out of Reading, has sold appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators and TVs for decades.

However, Al Boscov now said there has been a dramatic drop in sales in those departments because of competition.

A liquidation sale on major appliances will be held throughout the holidays, and after that Boscov plans to expand the furniture department.

He also said that the service department for appliances and electronics will remain open at Boscov’s stores.
